How to Change Your Little Legend in the TFT Client Lobby

If you want to change the Little Legend beside your player card before a TFT match, change your Tactician in the TFT cosmetic loadout. That changes the in-game companion and the Tactician shown on the loading screen; it does not change your Riot account profile icon or Riot ID.

Riot’s current terminology groups Little Legends, Chibis, and Unbound characters under “Tacticians.” Riot describes a Tactician as your in-game avatar in TFT. The exact lobby controls may look different during the PC client transition: as of October 7, 2026, Riot’s migration FAQ says the dedicated TFT PC client is planned for October 9 and that cosmetics will carry over into the new engine’s Loadout. Use the matching Loadout or Tactician control in the client you have installed; button placement can change between client versions.

Change your Little Legend from the TFT lobby

  1. Open Teamfight Tactics and enter the pre-game lobby. On the current League client, choose TFT and open the queue lobby before starting a match. The customization you need is attached to the TFT lobby, rather than the League profile portrait menu.
  2. Open the cosmetic loadout or Tactician selector. Select the Little Legend/Tactician preview or the lobby’s Loadout control. If you are using the dedicated TFT PC client after it becomes available, look for its Loadout section. The menu label or location may differ from the older League client.
  3. Choose the Tactician you want to use. Browse the available Tacticians and select the one you want. Depending on the client version, the collection may show Little Legends alongside Chibis and Unbound Tacticians. A selection may have a star level or other cosmetic variation; make sure you are choosing the version you intend to display.
  4. Confirm with Equip or the equivalent selection action. Some menus apply a selection immediately, while others show a confirmation button. Close the picker only after the highlight or preview reflects your choice.
  5. Check the lobby preview before queueing. Confirm that the lobby card or Tactician preview changed. If the old companion remains visible, reopen the picker and check whether you selected the item without equipping it.

Which Tactician should you equip?

For a quick change, choose a Tactician you already own and equip it directly. That is the shortest route and does not require spending currency. If you have several favorites, Riot documented a favorite feature that can place up to eight items of each cosmetic type at the top of the Tacticians, Arenas, or Booms lists. Favoriting helps when your collection is long, but it does not itself equip a Tactician.

Little Legend, Tactician, and profile icon are different

“Little Legend” is often used casually for the small companion you take into a TFT match. Riot’s current support guide uses “Tactician” as the broader category: it includes Little Legends, Chibis, and Unbound Tacticians. This is the cosmetic you select in TFT’s game loadout. It can appear beside your player card and as your movable character in the Convergence.

Your Riot profile icon is a separate account cosmetic. Changing that icon from a profile or account menu does not necessarily change the Tactician equipped for TFT. Likewise, changing an Arena, Boom, or Portal changes a different part of the loadout. If only your profile picture changed, return to TFT’s Tactician selector.

If your chosen Little Legend does not appear

  • Check ownership and availability. A locked item may appear in the collection but cannot be equipped. Riot says the new Unreal client is bringing cosmetics over in stages, so some cosmetics may not appear immediately during the transition. Try another available Tactician and check Riot’s current migration notes if an item is missing.
  • Make sure you changed the Tactician slot. The Arena and Boom controls affect other cosmetic slots. Reopen Loadout and verify the selected category is Tactician.
  • Reopen the lobby after a client update. Riot notes that preferred settings and loadout favorites reset during the engine migration. Your purchases and earned content are expected to remain, but you may need to set your preferred selection again.
  • Close and relaunch the client if the preview is stale. Then return to the lobby and check the equipped preview again. If a purchased cosmetic still cannot be selected, use Riot Player Support and include the item name and the client version you are using.

Quick check before you queue

Confirm three things: the TFT lobby is open, the Tactician slot shows your chosen companion, and the preview has updated. If you meant to change your Riot profile icon instead, use the profile controls; if you meant to change the in-match companion, use the TFT Loadout. Riot’s TFT Tacticians Guide explains the current Tactician category, while its Patch 14.8 notes describe the favorite feature.
