How to Bind Jump and Vault to Separate Keys in PUBG

To separate jump and vault in PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS on PC, open Settings > Key Bindings, find the jump and vault actions, and assign each to its own key. A practical starting layout is Jump Only: Space and Vault Only: V, provided V is free in your other bindings. If your menu still has a combined Jump/Vault action on Space, clear that combined assignment after setting the dedicated actions so Space does not continue triggering both.

This guide is for the PC keyboard-and-mouse version of PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS. Console controls and PUBG MOBILE use different control menus.

What the separate bindings change

PUBG’s official support page lists both Jump and Vault as Space by default. That page was last updated in 2020, so use it as a reference for the traditional default rather than a guarantee that every current menu has identical labels. The PUBG development team has also described the option to split jump and vault into separate key bindings. When the actions are separated, a jump-only key is intended for a hop, while the vault-only key requests the obstacle-crossing action. The game still decides whether the nearby surface can be climbed or crossed; a key assignment cannot make every wall vaultable.

A separate setup can help when you want to hop beside a ledge, land on top of a low surface, or avoid starting an unwanted climb near a window. It does not guarantee a particular animation or outcome on every obstacle. Test it on several low objects before relying on it in a live match.

How to assign a jump key and a vault key

  1. Open the PC key settings. Start PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS and open Settings, then select Key Bindings. The current settings interface has a side navigation panel, and the key-binding categories have been reorganized in recent updates. Look through the categories shown in your client rather than relying on an old screenshot or a fixed tab name.
  2. Find the movement actions. Look for entries labeled Jump, Vault, Jump Only, Vault Only, or a combined Jump/Vault. Wording can vary by client version or localization. The important distinction is whether the row describes one action or the combined action.
  3. Set the jump-only key. Select the binding field for Jump or Jump Only and press Space on your keyboard. Space is a familiar starting point, but you can use another key if it suits your hand position and does not conflict with another action.
  4. Set the vault-only key. Select Vault or Vault Only and press a different key, such as V. A spare mouse side button can also work if the game accepts it and you can press it reliably. Before choosing, check whether that key already controls another action you need.
  5. Remove the combined binding if it remains active. If the menu still shows Space assigned to Jump/Vault, clear that field so it cannot issue the combined action along with your new separate bindings. PUBG’s current key-binding screen includes a guide for clearing a binding with Esc; select the relevant binding field and use the on-screen instruction. Clear only the combined assignment you intend to replace, then verify that Jump and Vault each still show their own key.
  6. Keep or accept the changes. If the menu prompts you to apply or confirm settings, accept the change. Reopen the key-binding page once to make sure your assignments remain visible. If your layout uses a different label, follow the action name in your client instead of copying a key list from another player.

Suggested starting layout

ActionExample keyWhat to check
Jump OnlySpaceSpace should no longer also trigger the combined Jump/Vault action.
Vault OnlyVConfirm V is not assigned to an action you use often.
Combined Jump/VaultUnassigned, if the separate actions are availableDo not leave an overlapping combined bind if your goal is to separate the inputs.

These are example choices, not a recommended competitive standard. If V is awkward or already occupied, choose an accessible unused key and make sure you can press it without releasing movement or aim controls you need.

How to test the bindings before a match

  1. Use the Training area or another low-pressure mode and stand near a low obstacle with clear space around it.
  2. Press the jump-only key away from the obstacle. The character should perform a normal jump rather than begin a vault.
  3. Approach a low ledge and tap the jump-only key. Check whether the character hops or lands on the ledge without automatically crossing it.
  4. Approach a suitable waist-high barrier and press the vault-only key. Confirm that the character starts the obstacle interaction when the object and approach allow it.
  5. Repeat with a window or a different barrier. PUBG’s vaulting system depends on the object’s shape, height, approach, and available space, so one successful test does not prove every obstacle will behave the same way.

Judge the setup by the input you intended: Space should produce a jump when you want a hop, and the second key should request the vault action. If the character still climbs when you only wanted to jump, review the combined binding first. If the vault key does nothing on one surface, test a different obstacle before changing every control.

Common misunderstandings and fixes

“The settings menu changed, so separate bindings were removed.”

Verified: PUBG’s Update 42.3 notes describe changes to the settings interface, including a side navigation panel and reorganized key-binding categories. Those notes do not say that jump-and-vault separation was removed. What depends on your client: the category and exact wording you see. What is not established by those notes: a single fixed tab name for these actions across every localization and future build. Look through the current categories for the action labels before concluding the option is missing.

“Space is always jump-only.”

Verified: PUBG support lists Space for both Jump and Vault in its published keyboard-and-mouse command list. If a combined action remains bound, Space may still behave as a context-sensitive jump or vault. Check the actual rows in your client and remove the combined binding if you want a dedicated jump key.

“Binding two keys guarantees that every wall can be vaulted.”

Verified: PUBG support says vaulting does not work on all walls, and the development team has explained that the game evaluates obstacle geometry and available space. The separate key controls which action you request; it does not change the obstacle rules. Try another surface or approach if a particular barrier cannot be crossed.

“An old guide’s menu path must still match the current screen.”

Version-dependent: the official Update 42.3 notes say PUBG reorganized key-binding options and added categories. An older guide may name a category that has since moved. Use the labels and navigation displayed by your installed version, then verify the visible key beside each action.

If the new keys do not work

  • Space still vaults unexpectedly: check for a remaining combined Jump/Vault assignment or a second binding for the vault action.
  • The vault key triggers another action: inspect the same key in other relevant categories and choose an unused alternative if necessary.
  • The binding appears to vanish: set it again, accept any confirmation prompt, and revisit the page to see whether the client retained it.
  • The character does not vault a specific object: try a different obstacle and approach. The action is not supported by every surface.
  • You cannot find the split actions: check the category list carefully and confirm you are changing PC keyboard-and-mouse settings, not a controller preset or PUBG MOBILE layout. If the actions are absent in your current build, avoid editing configuration files based on old instructions; use the in-game settings or current official support instead.
