Athletic Club vs Real Sociedad Preview: Kickoff, TV and Team News

Athletic Club vs Real Sociedad kicks off at 9:00 p.m. CET (UTC+01:00) on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at San Mamés in Bilbao, Spain. That is 20:00 UTC on November 1. DAZN is the confirmed viewing option in Spain for this LaLiga Matchday 11 fixture.

The Basque derby pairs two teams carrying recent momentum: Athletic have won their last two competitive matches, while Real Sociedad arrive on a four-game league winning streak. The immediate question is whether Athletic can sustain their improvement against opponents their own coach has identified as dangerous on the counterattack.

Kickoff and venue: the essential details

The Spanish federation’s Matchday 11 schedule confirms the venue and 21:00 mainland-Spain kickoff. Bilbao is on Central European Time, or CET, on this date, after the autumn daylight-saving change. International viewers should convert the confirmed 20:00 UTC kickoff using their location’s rules for November 1.

Where to watch Athletic Club vs Real Sociedad

Athletic’s official match-specific viewing announcement names DAZN for coverage in Spain. This is more useful than assuming that any broadcaster with some LaLiga rights will show this particular fixture.

Outside Spain, consult the club’s international viewing guide, then verify the game in the relevant operator’s schedule. The guide lists regional rights holders but explicitly warns that it does not guarantee coverage of this individual match everywhere.

Before subscribing or settling in, check the exact fixture name, whether live video is included in your package, and the time zone shown by the service. Athletic’s official website and app also provide match updates; those updates should not be mistaken for a live television stream.

Recent form: both teams arrive with momentum

Athletic beat Getafe 4-0 in their previous league outing and followed that with a 6-1 Copa del Rey victory at AE Prat. The club’s official results list records both wins. Ten goals across those matches provide encouragement, although a domestic cup tie against different opposition is not a direct measure of how the derby will unfold.

Real Sociedad’s official fixture record shows recent league wins over Deportivo, Málaga and Levante, scoring 10 goals across those three games. Athletic coach Edin Terzić confirmed in his derby preview that the visitors’ league winning run stretches to four matches.

That makes this a test of both teams’ progress. Athletic are trying to turn two strong results into a longer sequence, while Sociedad are seeking to carry an established league run into an away derby.

Team news and selection updates

Athletic: The club confirmed on October 19 that Gorka Guruzeta suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. Its medical report establishes a significant injury absence; no recovery date should be inferred from that announcement.

There is a different situation with Álvaro Djaló. In his October 31 pre-match press conference, Terzić said Djaló was available to train and play, while emphasizing the need to rebuild his competitive rhythm. Availability does not establish whether he will start or how many minutes he might receive.

Real Sociedad: Pellegrino Matarazzo released his derby squad announcement on October 31 after the final preparation session at Zubieta. A squad announcement identifies the group selected for the match; it is not the confirmed starting XI. The final lineups were not confirmed in the official material checked for this preview, and a complete injury list could not be independently established from it.

The tactical question: pressure without leaving space

Analysis: Terzić highlighted Sociedad’s midfield strength and counterattacking threat, meaning their ability to attack quickly after winning possession. If Athletic push players forward to sustain pressure, their positioning behind the attack becomes particularly important. Losing the ball with too few players protecting central space could give the visitors the kind of opportunity Terzić has warned about.

For Sociedad, the corresponding test is whether they can turn recoveries into controlled attacks rather than immediately surrendering possession. These are questions to watch, not confirmed game plans or a score prediction. The actual selections will help explain each coach’s approach.

Attending San Mamés or following the result

The club’s matchday stadium guide says gates open at 7:30 p.m. CET (UTC+01:00) on November 1, 90 minutes before kickoff. Arriving before the final rush leaves time to locate your entrance and seat.

For confirmed teams, live events and the eventual final score, use the official Athletic match center. At the time of this preview, the fixture remains scheduled. Check for a full-time status before treating any displayed score as the result.
