This preview also includes a verified medical update and Real Sociedad's latest pre-match squad announcement.

Athletic Club vs Real Sociedad: confirmed match information

Spain's daylight saving time ended on October 25, 2026. Bilbao therefore uses CET (UTC+01:00) on November 1, not Central European Summer Time (CEST). A listing of 21:00 in the Spanish club calendars and 20:00 UTC refers to the same scheduled kickoff. In London, the equivalent is 8:00 p.m. Greenwich Mean Time (GMT, UTC+00:00) on Sunday, November 1. Latest verified team news: injuries, squad and suspensions

Athletic Club: Ruiz de Galarreta medical report

Athletic Club's official medical report dated October 27 confirms that midfielder Íñigo Ruiz de Galarreta suffered a moderate injury to the hamstring muscles of his right leg. He was substituted in the 18th minute against Getafe, and the club said his progress would be monitored. That establishes the injury, but the medical bulletin itself does not specify an exact return date or independently confirm a final derby-day selection decision. His availability should not be presented as settled without a newer club announcement or the official team sheet.

Real Sociedad: October 31 traveling-squad announcement

Real Sociedad published an official derby squad announcement on October 31, after completing its final preparation session at Zubieta. The club states that coach Pellegrino Matarazzo released his squad for the trip to San Mamés. That is an important change since an earlier general fixture preview, but a traveling squad is not the starting lineup. The accessible announcement does not provide a verifiable text list of all players, so this article does not infer individual inclusions, exclusions or injury diagnoses from speculation.

What remains unconfirmed

At this update, the official reports checked do not establish a complete, final list of both clubs' injury and suspension absences for the match. An injury bulletin, a matchday squad and a suspension ruling are different types of evidence. Readers should consult the latest club notices, RFEF match records and the LaLiga match center before treating any predicted XI or claimed suspension as definitive. Confirmed starting lineups will be available closer to kickoff.

Why this Basque derby matters

These clubs represent two of the Basque Country's best-known football cities: Athletic Club in Bilbao and Real Sociedad in San Sebastián. Their rivalry brings regional significance to a regular-season league fixture, but the competition on November 1 is for three La Liga points, not a separate derby trophy. Both teams will have to manage the intensity of the occasion alongside ordinary league priorities.

The venue adds to the sense of occasion. Athletic play their home matches at San Mamés, often called La Catedral (“The Cathedral”). According to the official stadium website, the current stadium succeeded the former ground in 2013 and has a capacity of 53,331. Its setting may make the atmosphere a factor for the visitors, although home advantage by itself cannot establish how the match will finish.

Recent form and tactical questions

Can Athletic build on back-to-back wins?

In an October 31 pre-match report, coach Edin Terzić discussed the significance of the derby after wins against Getafe in La Liga and AE Prat in the Copa del Rey. He emphasized competing for three points while keeping composure amid the emotion of a rivalry match. Those are the coach's stated intentions, not proof of a particular formation or a guaranteed outcome.

Can Real Sociedad maintain their league run?

The same official Athletic Club interview describes Real Sociedad as arriving with four consecutive La Liga wins. Terzić highlighted the visitors' midfield organization and counterattacking danger. Real Sociedad's official results and fixtures also provide context for their recent domestic matches. A strong run can inform expectations, but it does not remove uncertainty from a derby played away from home.

Possession changes could be particularly interesting. If Athletic commit players forward, the visitors may have opportunities to advance quickly into space. If Real Sociedad stay compact instead, Athletic may need to circulate the ball patiently and create chances through combinations or crosses. These are possible patterns to watch, not confirmed tactical instructions. The final matchup of players and roles depends on the published starting elevens.

Where to watch and follow the derby

Athletic Club's official worldwide viewing guide identifies La Liga broadcaster partners in multiple territories. Its listings include DAZN among services in Spain and regional partners elsewhere, such as ESPN in the United States and Disney+ or Premier Sports in the United Kingdom and Ireland. However, the club explicitly warns that a service holding regional league rights is not guaranteed to show this specific fixture. Verify your broadcaster's final program listing, location restrictions and subscription requirements before kickoff.

For official non-video updates, use the LaLiga match center or the clubs' fixture pages. The Athletic Club app, Athletic Play and official club channels may carry reports and match alerts, but they should not be mistaken for a promised free live video feed. Avoid links claiming an unverified broadcast or a confirmed final score before the match is played.

Visiting San Mamés: tickets and entry

Supporters going to the match should check Athletic Club's official stadium guide for ticketing and entry rules. The club's published plan lists gates opening at 7:30 p.m. CET (UTC+01:00), or 18:30 UTC, on November 1, 90 minutes ahead of kickoff. Entry conditions can vary by membership or ticket type, and last-minute operational notices may change practical arrangements.

Only official ticketing channels can confirm whether seats are actually available. A ticket-page link does not guarantee inventory, while unofficial resellers may introduce additional risk. The correct destination is San Mamés in Bilbao, rather than Real Sociedad's home venue in San Sebastián. Attendees should allow time for checks and confirm their assigned access gate.

What to check before kickoff

• Kickoff or venue changes: Reopen the LaLiga event page and the two clubs' official fixture listings for any late change.
• Availability: Read newer club medical statements and the official squads; do not turn an injury update into a claimed recovery date.
• Starting elevens and suspensions: Use the final match sheet and federation records, not predicted lineup graphics, to distinguish confirmed absences from rumors.
• Broadcasts and stadium access: Confirm the specific match listing with your regional provider and any revised notices from Athletic Club.

Update checked October 31, 2026 (Bilbao, CET, UTC+01:00). The match remains scheduled for Sunday, November 1, at 9:00 p.m. CET (20:00 UTC) at San Mamés. The newest official items identified in this review are Athletic Club's Ruiz de Galarreta medical bulletin and Real Sociedad's October 31 squad announcement; neither provides a license to invent a lineup or result.
