What “Legacy skin” means in League of Legends
Riot’s support guide describes Legacy skins as items that are not normally available in the store. It says some may appear in bundles or event sales, and that most Legacy skins above 520 RP can also be obtained through Mystery Gifting or Hextech Crafting, with exceptions. The guide itself says it is no longer being updated, so treat it as a category explainer—not a live, exhaustive availability list. “Vaulted” is a store status: the skin has left regular direct sale for now. It does not mean the cosmetic has been erased from the game or that owners lose access to it. Why do some League skins leave the shop?
Riot’s patch notes show that some cosmetics are sold for a stated window and then moved into the vault. That creates a clear release period for a seasonal collection, but the notes do not claim that every vaulting is a permanent removal or give one universal reason for every skin. Riot’s older explanation for re-releasing certain early limited skins described a balance between making them accessible to newer players and preserving value for original owners. That 2013 policy is useful historical context, not a promise about every skin today.
There is no reliable, fixed “Legacy Vault weekend” calendar. A return can be tied to a holiday, celebration, champion update, or a specific announcement. A past return proves that a skin came back once; it does not guarantee the next date or even another return.

What vaulting means for your account
- If you already own the skin: a store vault notice is not an announcement that the skin is being taken away. You can continue using the cosmetic in your account.
- If you do not own it: you may lose the option to buy it directly once the sale window ends. Whether it can return or be crafted depends on its category and Riot’s current rules.
- If it is Limited: do not assume a Legacy sale or loot route applies. Some achievement and collector’s edition skins have different restrictions.
