The local time and UTC time refer to the same first ball. Cape Town uses SAST at UTC+02:00, and South Africa does not move its clocks for daylight saving time in 2026. Cricket Australia’s preview also lists 7:30 p.m. Australian Eastern Daylight Time (AEDT, UTC+11:00) on Tuesday for viewers in that zone. The location-based match time remains the Cape Town time; it does not change according to the reader’s location.
Australia won the first Test in Durban by 214 runs. South Africa leveled the series by winning the second Test in Gqeberha by an innings and 31 runs. That leaves the Cape Town match as the deciding game of a three-Test tour: a win would give either side the series, while a draw would leave the teams level. Those results and the 1–1 score are reported in the ICC’s current series coverage.
The fixture also counts toward the men’s 2025–27 World Test Championship. In its October 26 update, the ICC said Australia entered the final Test at the top of both the WTC standings and the Test rankings, and would lose those positions if South Africa beat them in Cape Town. That is additional championship context, separate from the bilateral series result.
The match is at Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town. Cricket South Africa’s event listing uses the commercial name YesPlay Newlands, while Cricket Australia and the ICC identify the venue as Newlands or Newlands Cricket Ground. These references point to the Cape Town ground hosting this Test. The scheduled match window covers five playing days, October 27–31, but it does not mean all five days will necessarily be needed. A Test can finish earlier if a side secures a result; if no result is reached within the scheduled time, the match can be drawn.
Cricket Australia’s published plan for the opening day gives these session windows. Times are shown for Cape Town and then UTC, so the conversion stays clear for readers following from elsewhere.
| Opening-day session | Cape Town (SAST, UTC+02:00) | UTC |
|---|---|---|
| First | 10:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. | 08:30–10:30 |
| Second | 1:10–3:10 p.m. | 11:10 a.m.–1:10 p.m. |
| Third | 3:30–5:30 p.m. | 1:30–3:30 p.m. |
The schedule allows up to 30 additional minutes to complete the day’s overs when light and weather permit. These are planned times, not a guarantee that every session will run exactly as listed. Follow the live match center for delays or changes. The ICC’s current men’s Test playing-conditions document is also available through its official rules page.
South Africa: The ICC reported on October 24 that fast bowler Anrich Nortje was ruled out of the series decider after sustaining a mild groin injury while bowling in the Gqeberha Test. The ICC’s published third-Test squad was Temba Bavuma (captain), Marques Ackerman, David Bedingham, Corbin Bosch, Matthew Breetzke, Gerald Coetzee, Simon Harmer, Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Aiden Markram, Wiaan Mulder, Senuran Muthusamy, Dane Paterson, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton, and Kyle Verreynne. The ICC said no replacement had been named at the time of that update. The toss-day XI may be chosen from the squad and should be checked separately.
Australia: Cricket Australia’s match-eve report on October 26 says Nic Maddinson and reserve wicketkeeper Sam Harper were released from the Test squad. That means Australia will make at least one change to the XI from the previous Test, including a new opener. The updated squad list published by Cricket Australia includes Pat Cummins (captain), Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Cooper Connolly, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Matthew Kuhnemann, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Michael Neser, Matthew Renshaw, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, and Beau Webster.
Cricket Australia reported that Matthew Renshaw was a strong chance to open after Maddinson’s release. Cameron Green and Josh Inglis were back in selection contention after injuries; Inglis was still recovering from a broken finger and was being considered as a batter, not as a confirmed wicketkeeping replacement. Steve Smith was due to have a fitness test on his neck at Australia’s match-eve training session and was described as firming to play. These are selection updates and expectations, not confirmed team announcements. At the time of this update, the official playing XIs and toss result had not been announced.
For Australian viewers, Cricket Australia lists Kayo and Fox Cricket as coverage options for the series; its series page also links to Kayo and Foxtel. Broadcast rights vary by country, so viewers elsewhere should consult a local rights holder. The official match center is the best place to check whether a live score, commentary feed, or result has been posted.
