Updated Wednesday, October 21, 2026. Aston Villa are scheduled to host Viking at Villa Park in UEFA Champions League Matchday 3. The kickoff remains set for 8:00 p.m. in Birmingham on Wednesday, October 21, which is 7:00 p.m. UTC. Aston Villa’s latest official team update says Ian Maatsen has returned to training, while Johan Manzambi and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are unavailable. Matteo Ruggeri and Amadou Onana are also listed among the sidelined players. Starting lineups are not confirmed until the clubs publish their team sheets.

When does Aston Villa vs Viking kick off?

The fixture is scheduled for Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at Villa Park in Birmingham. Aston Villa’s official ticket details give an 8:00 p.m. kickoff. Birmingham is on British Summer Time, BST (UTC+01:00), on October 21, so the match time is 19:00 UTC. The UK clocks do not go back until Sunday, October 25, according to the official government clock-change schedule. The date-specific offset matters: 8:00 p.m. BST and 19:00 UTC refer to the same kickoff.

UEFA lists Aston Villa vs Viking on the Wednesday Matchday 3 schedule in the 2026/27 league phase and identifies it as match 2049602. Its official match center is the competition reference for match status, confirmed lineups, statistics and in-game events. The official fixture list was updated on October 20 and still shows the match on October 21; the club and UEFA listings checked for this update show no change to the venue or kickoff.

What team news has Aston Villa confirmed?

Aston Villa’s team-news update published October 20 reports that Maatsen has rejoined his teammates at Bodymoor Heath and is training with the group this week. The defender had been sidelined since the club’s Premier League match against Nottingham Forest in mid-September. A return to training is a positive availability update, but it does not confirm that Maatsen is match-fit, selected or starting against Viking.

Manager Unai Emery said Manzambi is unavailable after picking up a small injury during Saturday’s 1-0 win at Newcastle United. Wan-Bissaka also came off in that match, and the club expects him to be out for three to four weeks. The official update adds Ruggeri and Onana to the players sidelined for the European fixture. Emery described Onana’s absence as long term; the club update does not give firm return dates for Ruggeri or Onana. These are availability statements, not a predicted formation or a confirmed XI.

The Villa release covers its own squad. At the time of this update, the official sources checked do not provide a comparable Viking availability list or a match-specific suspension list. Treat those details as unconfirmed unless Viking, Aston Villa or UEFA posts a new official update. The starting teams should be checked in the UEFA match center or the clubs’ matchday channels when the team sheets are published; a squad list or media prediction is not the same as a confirmed lineup.

How have the teams started the league phase?

Villa arrive with six points from their first two league-phase games. They opened with a 3-2 away win over Club Brugge on September 8, then beat Fenerbahçe 6-0 at Villa Park on October 14. A third win would extend their perfect start, but the result is not settled by the previous scores.

Viking have one point from their opening two matches. They lost 3-1 away to Stuttgart on September 9 and drew 3-3 at home with Bayern München on October 13. The UEFA league-phase fixture and results list records those dates and scores. The results explain the table context: Villa are looking to maintain their winning run, while Viking are seeking their first league-phase victory.

Where can you watch or follow the match?

For viewers in the UK, TNT Sports’ match-specific guide lists live coverage on TNT Sports 2 and HBO Max, beginning at 7:45 p.m. BST. That is pre-match coverage; kickoff is 8:00 p.m. BST. Availability and subscription requirements depend on the service and location. If you are watching outside the UK, use UEFA’s country-by-country broadcast-partner directory to find the authorized option for your territory rather than assuming a UK channel or package is available everywhere.

If you do not need live video, the UEFA match center provides an official place to check the lineup announcements, match status, goals and statistics. Aston Villa’s fixtures page and matchday news are useful for club updates. Check the source timestamp when a late injury or lineup change is reported, and distinguish a player being available for selection from a player being named in the starting eleven.

What should you check before kickoff?

Use the same three identifiers when checking a reminder, stream or live update: Aston Villa vs Viking, Wednesday, October 21, 2026, and Villa Park in Birmingham. The venue kickoff is 8:00 p.m. BST (UTC+01:00), or 19:00 UTC. The match ID 2049602 helps distinguish this game from the other fixtures played on Matchday 3.

For team news, the confirmed club update is the latest reliable starting point in this check: Maatsen is training with the group; Manzambi and Wan-Bissaka are unavailable; Ruggeri and Onana remain sidelined. It does not establish the final selection, Viking’s availability picture or a suspension list. Check UEFA and the clubs again closer to kickoff for any new announcement, and use TNT Sports’ match-specific listing in the UK or UEFA’s broadcast directory elsewhere for viewing details.
