What Are League Medals in Clash of Clans? How CWL Rewards Work

League Medals in Clash of Clans are a special currency earned through Clan War Leagues (CWL). The game awards them after a CWL season, and you spend them in the League Shop on powerful upgrade items and other rewards. Your clan’s league and final group placement set the placement reward; your own War Stars determine how much of that reward you receive.

What League Medals are used for

League Medals are a reward currency tied to CWL. They are separate from the Gold, Elixir, Dark Elixir, and Gems used elsewhere in Clash of Clans, and they are not the same as Raid Medals. You earn League Medals through your clan’s CWL participation and rewards rather than through ordinary village attacks or the Clan Capital’s Raid Weekends.

The League Shop is the main place to spend them. Its offers are separate from the regular Shop and Trader, and League Medals are not a general-purpose resource for paying upgrade costs directly.

How you earn League Medals

At the end of a Clan War League season, players on the clan’s CWL roster receive a placement reward. According to Supercell’s Clan War Leagues Rewards support page, the amount is based on two things: the league the clan played in and the clan’s final position in its group. A higher league and a higher group finish generally mean a larger placement reward.

There is also an individual participation factor. Supercell says a player needs at least 8 War Stars from attacks during the season to receive the full placement reward. A player who earns no War Stars receives 20% of the possible placement reward. Rostered players who are never placed on the War Map on any Battle Day also receive 20%. Between those points, the reward scales with the War Stars the player earns.

This means you do not have to attack just to receive any placement medals, as long as you were enrolled on the CWL roster. However, using your attacks and earning stars can increase your share. Players who were never put on the roster do not qualify for that season’s roster reward.

Clan bonuses are a separate award

Clan Leaders and Co-Leaders can distribute additional bonus League Medals to roster members. The number of players eligible for a bonus increases with each war the clan wins, while the bonus size and number of recipients depend on the clan’s league. The bonus must be assigned within 21 days after the CWL War Week ends, so check with your clan leadership if you expect one.

If you leave or are removed from your clan after being enrolled in the CWL roster, Supercell says you remain eligible for your placement reward and any bonus medals awarded to you.

What can you buy in the League Shop?

The best-known League Shop purchases are Magic Hammers. A Hammer completes an eligible upgrade for its category, saving the upgrade’s waiting time and resource cost. Choose one that matches an upgrade you are ready to start; a Hammer cannot be used on an unrelated item.

The shop also offers other Magic Items and potions, and it has featured cosmetic rewards such as League Hero Skins and War Scenery. The exact selection and prices can change. For example, Supercell’s Town Hall 18 update notes from November 2025 raised the Resource Potion price from 5 to 10 Clan War League Medals. Check the current League Shop in your game before budgeting medals around an older price list.

If village progression is your priority, saving for a Hammer that finishes a costly or long upgrade can provide more value than spending medals on a small convenience item. If you need a potion for a near-term goal, compare its current price with the time or resources it will save. Cosmetics are a valid choice too when you prefer appearance rewards over faster upgrades.

League Medals vs. Raid Medals

These currencies come from different clan activities. League Medals come from Clan War Leagues and are spent in the League Shop. What changed for CWL rewards in 2026?

Supercell announced that the Clan War League structure would get new tiers starting with the May 2026 CWL. It also noted that some players, particularly at the top, might initially see fewer medals as the new system settled. Because league tiers and reward amounts can change, older medal charts may no longer match your game. Use the current season’s in-game CWL reward screen for the amount attached to your clan’s league and placement, and use the support rules above to understand how your War Stars affect your personal share.
