Quick Fix: How to Change Language in the League of Legends Client (PC, Mac & Mobile)

To change the language in the League of Legends client on Windows or Mac, open League and use the gear icon at the bottom-right of its sign-in screen. Riot says that menu lists the languages available for your account’s region. Choose one there, then restart the client if it does not refresh. Mobile needs a separate explanation: the PC game, Wild Rift, and the Riot Mobile companion app are different products with separate language settings.

This guide follows Riot’s current support instructions. It also explains which older advice—such as changing a configuration file or matching your computer’s system language—you can skip when the in-client option is available.

Change the League of Legends client language on Windows

1. Open Riot Client and launch League of Legends. Select the League game page and click Play. Riot’s 2026 launcher update means a desktop shortcut may open Riot Client first; use the Play button to continue.
2. Go to the League sign-in screen. If the game has already signed you in and you cannot see that screen, sign out and reopen League.
3. Click the gear icon in the lower-right corner. Select the language you want from the available list. The list is specific to your League region, so it may not include every language offered elsewhere.
4. Confirm the selection and reopen League if needed. Follow any on-screen prompt. If the menus still show the previous language, fully quit Riot Client and League, then launch them again.

Riot’s League support guide identifies the login-screen gear as the place to see and choose supported languages for your region. The client’s displayed language is separate from your Riot account region; changing it does not transfer your account to another server.

Change the League client language on Mac

The League language menu is in the same place on macOS as it is on Windows. Launch League through Riot Client, reach the League sign-in screen, click the gear at the lower right, and choose one of the listed languages. Restart the client if the change does not appear right away.

You do not need to change macOS’s preferred language to use this League setting. Changing the system language can affect other apps, while the League sign-in menu is the direct control for the game. Mobile language settings: Wild Rift or Riot Mobile?

There is no mobile version of the Windows or Mac League of Legends client. On a phone, people usually mean either League of Legends: Wild Rift, which is a separate mobile game, or Riot Mobile, the companion app for Riot accounts, news, friends, and esports.

Change the language in Riot Mobile

1. Open Riot Mobile and tap Profile in the bottom-right corner.
2. Tap Settings in the top-right corner.
3. Tap Language and select your preference.

Riot documents this route in its Riot Mobile feature guide. This changes Riot Mobile’s interface; it does not change the League PC client or Wild Rift.

Change the language in Wild Rift

Open Wild Rift and look in the game’s Settings for a language option. If your version shows one, choose a listed language and restart the app. Wild Rift is not the League PC client, and Riot’s PC login-screen language menu does not control it. The official App Store listing gives the game’s supported languages, but the available choices and menu can vary by app version and region.

If you do not see a language selector in Wild Rift, Android offers per-app language controls only for apps that support them. On supported devices, check Settings > System > Languages > App Languages and see whether Wild Rift appears. Google notes that an app must support this feature to show in the list. On iPhone, the device-wide language control is Settings > General > Language & Region; changing it affects the phone, and Wild Rift will follow it only if the app supports that language behavior. Troubleshooting League language changes

• The gear or language list is missing: Make sure you are at the League sign-in screen, not only on Riot Client’s game page. Riot says the menu displays the languages supported in your region; you cannot select an option that is not listed there.
• The change does not appear: Close both League and Riot Client completely, then open League again. If the client shows a confirmation or update prompt, let it finish before checking the menu.
• You want a language from another region: Changing the client language does not change the account’s server. Riot accounts are linked to a League region, and the language selector shows the options for that region. Do not use a VPN as a substitute for the language menu.
• You found an old file-editing tutorial: You generally do not need to edit game.cfg, LeagueClientSettings.yaml, or a shortcut command to use Riot’s documented selector. Start with the gear menu; use manual changes only if Riot Support specifically directs you to do so.

For the quickest fix, use the League sign-in screen’s gear on PC or Mac, the app’s own language control on mobile, and the device’s per-app language menu only when the app supports it. These settings are separate, so changing one will not automatically update every Riot game or app on your devices.
