Step 1: Complete the Community Center (or the Joja route)
The Community Center is the standard path. Donate items to all six bundle rooms — the Pantry, Crafts Room, Fish Tank, Boiler Room, Bulletin Board, and Vault — and watch the cutscene that follows. If you chose the Joja route instead, purchase the Joja Membership from Pierre's shop and then fund every project on the Joja Community Development Form at the Joja Mart. Either path unlocks the same outcome: the door to Ginger Island.
Complete all six Community Center bundle rooms, or choose the Joja route — both lead to Ginger Island. -
Step 2: Read Willy's letter the next morning
After you finish the Community Center or Joja route, go to sleep and start the following day. When you check your mailbox in the morning, you will find a letter from Willy. He tells you about an old boat gathering dust in the back room of his bait shop and asks you to come take a look. Head down to Willy's shop on the beach — the previously locked door at the back of the shop is now open.

Step 3: Gather the boat repair materials
Inside Willy's back room you will find the boat broken into three sections, each needing a specific set of materials to fix. You need to collect all of the following before the boat can sail:
- 5 Iridium Bars — smelt Iridium Ore (found at mine level 115 and deeper, or in the Skull Cavern). Each bar takes 5 ore and 1 coal in a furnace.
- 5 Battery Packs — produced by a Lightning Rod during a storm, or by a Solar Panel on a sunny day. You can also find them in Fishing Treasure Chests.
- 200 Hardwood — chop Large Stumps and Large Logs with a Copper Axe or better. The Secret Woods (west of the farm) respawns six Large Stumps per day.

Step 4: Repair the boat in Willy's back room
Once you have all the materials, visit Willy's back room and interact with each of the three broken sections of the boat. Each section has a donate prompt where you contribute the required items — the anchor repair takes the Iridium Bars, the hull repair takes the Hardwood, and the ticket machine repair takes the Battery Packs. You can repair the sections in any order and across multiple days if you do not have everything ready at once. When all three sections show a green completion indicator, the boat is ready.

Step 5: Board the boat and sail to Ginger Island
With the boat fully repaired, talk to Willy in his shop. He will offer you a ticket to Ginger Island for 1,000g per trip. You can travel any day, in any season, and at any time before 17:00 (the boat won't leave late in the day). The voyage takes a moment, and you arrive at the Ginger Island Willy's Boat landing. From there you can explore the island's four sub-areas, meet new characters, grow tropical crops, discover the volcano dungeon, and much more.

Tips for unlocking Ginger Island faster
- Prioritize the Skull Cavern early. Iridium Ore is the biggest bottleneck. Bring bombs and staircases to descend quickly, or unlock the Qi's Walnut Room buff that doubles ore drops once you reach the island.
- Set up Lightning Rods before rainy days. Each rod produces one Battery Pack per storm. Build as many as you can afford and place them in open areas of your farm.
- Farm the Secret Woods daily. The six Large Stumps inside reset every morning, giving 12 Hardwood per day. Unlock it by upgrading your axe to Copper and chopping the fallen log at the left edge of Cindersap Forest.
- Save your materials for the boat — do not use them elsewhere. Iridium Bars and Battery Packs are in demand for farm equipment; once you know the boat is your goal, hold them back.

Troubleshooting
Willy's letter never arrived
The letter only triggers after the Community Center repair or Joja route completion cutscene has fully played. If you skipped the cutscene, the letter should still arrive the next morning. Make sure you actually slept through the night after finishing the final bundle or Joja project — the letter does not appear on the same day.
Willy's back-room door is still locked
The door unlocks only after you have read Willy's letter. If you visited his shop before reading the letter from the mailbox, go back to your mailbox first and read it, then return to the bait shop.
I don't have enough Hardwood after weeks of farming
In addition to the Secret Woods, Large Logs appear on the standard farm each season. You can also find Hardwood occasionally in supply crates on the beach or as a gift from Robin. If you have the Forest Farm map, extra Large Stumps spawn on the left side of the property each season.
