Discord on Xbox lets you join Discord voice channels from an Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S, and stream supported gameplay to a Discord voice channel. It works through Xbox’s console guide after you link your Microsoft/Xbox and Discord accounts; there is no standalone Discord app to download from the Xbox Store. You can also move a voice call from Discord on your phone to your console with the Xbox mobile app.
Once connected, you can join a Discord server’s voice channel from the Xbox guide, manage the call and audio controls on the console, and show your Xbox gamertag or game activity on your Discord profile if you enable those profile options. You can stream the game you are playing to a Discord voice channel, and watch a friend’s Discord stream on Xbox.
Discord voice is useful for mixed-platform squads, but it is not a promise of zero lag or a permanent in-game overlay. The actual experience depends on your connection, headset, game, and console settings. Discord’s current Xbox connection and voice chat guide is the source of truth for menu changes.
Use the Discord account you want in the voice channel and the Xbox account signed in on your console. A Discord account can have one Xbox account linked at a time.
You can also start linking in Discord mobile from your avatar, then Settings > Connections. If you linked the accounts a long time ago and voice features do not appear, Discord says some users need to unlink and reconnect to access newer Xbox features.
This is the straightforward way to join a channel while already at the console. If the server or channel is missing, first verify the linked account and check that you have access to that Discord server and channel.
To move an active Discord call from your phone, install both the Discord and Xbox mobile apps and sign in to the accounts you linked. In Discord mobile, join the voice channel, swipe up to open audio controls, and tap Join on Xbox. Choose your console in the Xbox app and select Transfer Audio. The Xbox app is required for this transfer route; it is not a Discord app for the console.
Discord also documents a desktop transfer route: join the channel on Discord desktop, choose Transfer Voice to Xbox, scan the displayed QR code with your phone, and complete the handoff in the mobile apps.
After linking accounts, you can share the game you are playing with people in a Discord voice channel:
Discord lists console-to-Discord streaming at up to 1080p and 60 fps on Xbox Series X|S, or up to 1080p and 30 fps on Xbox One, with a linked Xbox account and Nitro subscription. Xbox One does not offer the 60 fps option. Only gameplay can be streamed from the console; other Xbox apps and services are not streamable. Switching away from or closing the game pauses the stream.
You do not need Nitro to link accounts or join Discord voice chat on Xbox. The main Xbox-specific Nitro benefit is higher-quality gameplay streaming. Nitro’s other Discord benefits include HD streaming in supported Discord experiences, custom emoji and stickers, profile customization, and two Server Boosts; these are Discord-wide perks, not special Xbox voice features. There are also two separate Game Pass offers described by Discord. Eligible active Game Pass subscribers who link their accounts can receive a monthly 1.2x Quest Orbs multiplier, 250 Orbs, and a Discord Shop discount; Discord says this benefit does not require a Nitro membership and is available to all Game Pass plans in eligible regions. Separately, Discord lists a three-month Nitro promotion for eligible Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers, where available. The trial has redemption limits, regional restrictions, and billing terms: Discord says it converts to a paid monthly Nitro subscription after three months unless canceled.
